Mesa de los Santos, increased seismicity zone, but not in greater danger
The earthquakes produced in the Mesa de los Santos, a town located 30 kilometers from Bucaramanga, occur at a depth of between 150 and 170 kilometers. In this area is the seismic Bucaramanga nest where, according to the National Seismological Network, 50% of the earthquakes that occur in the country is presented. The reason for this activity is very deep there is a large sheet of rock that is still cold and breaking produces earthquakes. However, despite their frequency, these movements originate below the Mesa de los Santos deep, so daily Seismological Network recorded earthquakes but very low intensity.
